About URC Harpenden

Harpenden United Reformed Church is a friendly, open and welcoming fellowship that offers a distinctive non-conformist and reformed church ethos in our town. We are a local church of the United Reformed Church in Britain, one of the smaller mainstream denominations that has brought together English Presbyterians, English, Welsh and Scottish Congregationalists, and members of the Churches of Christ, through unions in 1972, 1981 and 2000. We are committed to theological and cultural diversity, as well as to ecumenical friendship and cooperation with the other churches in Harpenden.

Harpenden United Reformed Church holds a morning service each Sunday at 10.30 am with about 40-50 attending, among whom there are quite a few children. The Minister, visiting preachers and members of the congregation take turns leading and participating in the service. Our worship style is both traditional and modern, with our recently refurbished church and new A/V system allowing for more flexibility and creativity. And we are fortunate to have a small choir directed by an excellent organist.

The Junior Church meets during term time and is ably led by a group of parents. The ROOTS lectionary resource is used for the planning of the Junior Church. Also twice a year the Junior Church prepares and leads our worship service (a family service in July and a Nativity service in December). For babies and toddlers there is a crèche available within the church every Sunday.
